PROJECT TYPE:
Documentary

Created for the Galleries at Ringling College of Art & Design, ‘Echoes in Color’ is a documentary-style film produced by Storyvox, centered on artist Tom Stephens—whose work is deeply influenced by the movement, depth, and unpredictability of the sea. From the start, our goal was to move beyond a traditional artist profile and create something that actually felt like Stephens’ work—fluid, layered, and deeply personal—capturing both the precision of his process and the inspiration behind it.

We took a documentary-first approach, stepping into Stephens’ world and letting the story unfold naturally. Through a mix of candid interviews and behind-the-scenes moments, we were able to better understand not just how he creates, but why. One of the most memorable parts of the process was joining him out on the water—where he spends much of his time when he’s not in the studio. That experience gave us a rare, firsthand look at the environment that fuels his creativity and ultimately became a visual and emotional anchor throughout the film.

The final piece is cinematic, thoughtful, and intentionally human. It invites viewers to connect with Stephens not just as an artist, but as a person—offering a deeper understanding of his work by showing the process, the perspective, and the place it all comes from. It’s exactly the kind of story we love telling at Storyvox: one that feels as authentic as it does visually compelling.
